Bologna, December 16, 2020 – In the right year in which one of his most talented sons – Toto Jr – entered the international ring with Edward Gal, the same rider who shared worldwide honour with him, the fabulous Totilas succumbed to a fatal colic despite all efforts to save his life.
Iconic horse who managed to bring dressage closer to the wide public, Totilas started his career under the saddle of Jiska van den Akker.
In 2006, Cees Visser bought the black stallion and decided Edward Gal had to be its partner in sport.
Since then, it’s just a story of results, wins, success and titles. Totilas score records is really impressive.
In 2010, at the peak of his career, Totilas was sold for a rumoured record price of over 11 million euro and travelled to Germany, to Schockemöhle stable. The guru of German breeding and sport horses gave Totilas to German team rider Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff who secured in this way the ride of the stallion to Matthias Rath. But that was not such a match as the one with Gal and in 2015, the stallion was retired form sport.
Totilas spent the last 5 years of his life between Schockemöhle’s stallion station in Mühlen for breeding duties and the super facilities of Gestut Schafhof in Kronberg, Germany, where he was still lightly ridden by Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff.
