Liverpool, January 2016 – Billy Twomey won this night the Grand Prix in Liverpool Csi 4st riding Diaghilev, being almost two seconds faster than the local hero John Whitaker aboard Ornellaia. It was a sort of a twist of fate, as today the Ground Jury disqualified the young Irish rider Richard Howley because he was walking his horse Clane K out of the restricted area, not mentioning the disqualification of Bertram Allen in London Olympia before Christmas due to presence of blood on his mare’s right flank… a real nightmare for the Irish showjumping! So this night Twomey decided to offer a precious gift to his country by winning the very first Grand Prix of the new year. He did the job at his best, leaving in second place a couple actually very fast like Whitaker/Ornellaia, with Sweden’s Peder Fredricson aboard All In in third.
